The pure line organization does not have a specific position for project managers.Project managers are specialist who are aligned to the project for a specific time.The projects is divided into partial task and delegated to responsible department.The team managers continue to report to their line directors or upper manager.
It is also know as Functional organization.It have some advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages:
>Provide clearly marked career paths for hiring and promotions.
>No structural change for running the project required
>Flexibility for changes in the project scope
>Reduced overhead
Disadvantages:
>Provides scope for different departments heads to pass off company projects failures as being due to the failure of other department.
>Slow reaction time due to long communication lines within the project.
>Co-ordination of functional task is difficult as little reward for co-operation with other department is granted.
